Prepaid packages and gift cards for med spas, without the spreadsheet

Updated 10 September 2026 · 6 min read

A prepaid package is one card payment that buys several treatments, drawn down visit by visit. It lowers your processing cost per treatment, brings cash forward and makes the client far more likely to return. The balance has to live on the customer record, not in a spreadsheet, so any staff member can see remaining sessions at the counter.

One payment instead of six

A six-treatment laser package taken as a single payment carries one fixed transaction charge rather than six. On smaller ticket treatments that difference is real money over a year.

The bigger effect is retention. A client who has prepaid has already committed to returning, and prepaid clients complete far more of their treatment course than pay-as-you-go clients.

Where package tracking goes wrong

Most practices start with a spreadsheet or a note in the booking system. It works until two staff members update it on the same day, or until the client insists they have two sessions left and nobody can prove otherwise.

Attaching the balance to the customer record removes the argument. The front desk sees sessions remaining, redeems one, and the remaining count updates for everyone immediately.

Gift cards and store credit

Gift cards are prepaid balances sold to someone other than the person redeeming them, and they behave like a short-term loan to your business in the best way: money now, service later.

Store credit does the same job for goodwill. Instead of refunding a dissatisfied client to their card, issuing credit keeps the money in the business and keeps the relationship. Both should be visible on the same customer record as packages and memberships.

Med spa payment processing and the compliance basics

Gift card expiry and escheatment rules vary by state and country. Check your local rules before setting an expiry date, and keep the terms visible at the point of sale.

Enterprise Pay Gateway is software, not a bank. Funds from package and gift card sales settle from Stripe to your own bank account under your own Stripe agreement.

Frequently asked

Can a package be shared between family members?
That is your policy call. Balances sit on a customer record, so a shared package means booking both people under one record.
What happens to a package if a client stops coming?
The balance stays on the record until it is redeemed or you refund it. Set your own expiry policy in line with local rules.
Can staff sell packages at the counter?
Yes. Staff can take a counter payment or send a checkout link, and permissions control who can adjust balances.
